Cheating on Banting? Here's what you need to know!

If you are lucky, you will be like the kitteh, because lets face it, cheating is just stupid.

I'm sorry if this offends you, but the cheating I am referring to are the planned cheats. The ones that think - cool, Sundays are my day, that's the day I'll use to cheat. Stop it.

Its also for those that choose to eat a red listed item. You didn't fall off the wagon, you lept.

I understand that sometimes you're presented with impossible options while just trying to live your life - but in those instances you do the best you can.

What makes the cheating worse is if you don't suffer side effects the first time. This is a recipe for disaster. If the first time was fine - it gives you a false sense of empowerment. You can do it with no issues, which means you can do it more often. One day leads to two, two days lead to a week - and when you're wiping your eyes out, a month has gone by and those 5kg you were so proud to lose has crept back on.

If you're lucky you WILL experience side effects if you cheat.

These often include headaches, nausea, diarrhea, being bloated etc. These are all great ways to help keep you from straying in the future. It's your bodies way of protecting you, so thank it by feeding it healthy foods that it loves. This will also mean that getting yourself back to where you started won't be as difficult because you learn your lesson after the first time.

What can you do about cheating…

Often the question is posed that members are “craving” this or that. There are a few roads you could take to curb those thoughts.

  1. Find a decent healthy replacement you CAN have. If it's a bread you want, Try a few banting options. If it's a dessert you want, make some sunflower seed banting brownies. Anything to keep you from straying.

  2. Go cold turkey. This approach doesn't work for everyone and it is pretty hardcore. It is probably the best way to do things, but many will say it's not the sustainable way of doing it. Remember your ultimate goal is to stay banting.

  3. Write down why you want to Bant. Are you otherwise not very healthy? Do you have kilos to shed? Is your self esteem as an all time low? Maybe it is, but write it down. Take a pen and paper and list all the reasons you want to do this. Next time you're faced with a situation which has you questioning your lifestyle, take it out and read it. All of it. Then see if you feel the same way.

Self discipline is the key to this. You are the one in charge of what you put into your body, so make every bite count!
