Banting Festive Survival Tips

FESTIVE SEASON SURVIVAL TIPS:

1. Keep the cupboards free of red list.

If at all possible, just don't tempt fate and keep the red list stuff out the house, or if you're living with those that don't low carb, try to at least keep it out of immediate sight.

2. Prepare in Advance.

Think of your favourite christmas dessert and prepare it for yourself. Think about your whole menu. Here's some awesome ideas for you:

Banting Festive Feasts - You don't have to feel deprived, especially not over the holiday season, and especially because Banting is NOT A DIET! Stop treating it like one, please!

3. Enjoy your Banting Food.

Enjoy banting foods - because with high fat, everything is delicious! Cheese covered, bacon covered, cream covered...

4. Remember how you will feel if you DO cheat.

Remember how it was before? Or - remember how you felt when you cheated? How it completely derailed you? Do you need that in your life again?

5. Tell party hosts in advance.

You will inevitably be spending some time put the house this holiday season. Where possible and if you feel comfortable doing so, explain to your host that you are low carb so you can't eat certain foods anymore. Explain how it makes you sick and offer to bring something too - they don't have to change everything for you, just as long as you don't feel left out either. Alternatively, make the best choices you can while out. Go for the meat and salads or vegetables. Skip the desserts.

6. Think about your meal before you dish up.

If you do go to a party or dinner where you dish up for yourself, try to eat before you go, so that when you're there you aren't that tempted with the high carb stuff there. Hunger leads to temptation. Alternatively you can load your plate with salads and meats, there will normally be some olive oil available.

7. Social pressures.

Firstly, Try not to be sucked in to the peer pressure of being "forced" to eat something so as "not to offend" our host. it is bad for you, and I'm sure if you explained to them that it makes you sick (because let's face it, it does) - they will care enough about you to understand. Secondly, if you feel self-conscious about banting, you may have the impression that people are paying more attention to you than they really are - don't make a big deal about it and try to focus on enjoying your evening.

8. Explaining Your lifestyle.

Our food choices at parties can lead to all sorts of questions about why you are not eating certain foods. Try not to make it about your lifestyle being the best. Yes yes, I know it is, but you don't want to end up offending anyone by what seems like criticizing their chosen lifestyle. Just explain that this is a lifestyle that works best for you, or that you have a problem with carb and sugar addiction, and can't tolerate eating them. Make it about you. You know some people like to catch feelings ;)
